Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer at the 2025 OGEHR Festival. 

General Info

Our handbell festival is taking place at the Fennell Ave Campus of Mohawk College from Thursday, June 5 to Saturday, June 7, 2025. The address is 135 Fennell Ave W, Hamilton, ON L9C 1E9

Our main volunteer need is on Thursday when everyone is arriving from across the province, and on Saturday after the last workshops and at the concert in the evening. However, there are also some jobs throughout the festival where people could assist us. 

For any high school students, yes this volunteering can be used towards your volunteer hours. Just bring you form along with you.

All volunteers, at any time during the festival, will receive a ticket for the Festival Concert on Saturday, June 7th at 8pm.


What are the volunteer jobs?

Thursday Morning

    • In the morning we will be double checking the setup of tables and chairs on the ringing floor.
    • Setting up tables and chairs in the marketplace.
    • Setting up desks in the workshop rooms so they are ready for bells and/or chimes when they arrive in the afternoon. 

Eventually, after everyone arrives, things should look sort of like this . . .

Thursday Afternoon

      • The busiest time is Thursday afternoon when everyone starts to arrive. Groups will need help bringing in their handbells and other equipment, and finding their table to set up. 
          • Volunteers outside to help unload.
          • Volunteers with the table map to direct groups to their tables.
          • Volunteers to help bring everything to the tables. (They can take it from there.) 
      • Some sets of bells and/or chimes will need to be taken to the workshop rooms. 
          • Volunteers to help those groups get their equipment to the correct workshop room. 
          • The bell and/or chime set will need to set up ion pads so they are ready for the workshops starting on Friday. 
      • Vendors will also be arriving Thursday afternoon. The vendors use a different entrance that is closer to the Marketplace room. 
          • Volunteers outside to help unload.
          • Volunteers with the table map to direct groups to their tables.
          • Volunteers to help bring everything to the tables. (They can take it from there.) 
      • The large podium will be assembled so that it is ready for the evening rehearsal. 
      • The portable sound system will be set up by the podium after the podium is in place.
      • Info Central will be set up. 

Friday 

      • Some partners of handbell players might be in a position to help out at Info Central. This desk is near the ringing floor and the job mostly entails giving directions to locations and checking the schedule for people. (Although who knows what questions handbell players might have!)
      • Volunteers to go to the workshop rooms just before the workshop to meet security when the room is unlocked. (Think of it as bell babysitting until the workshop begins!)

Saturday

      • Again we will have a need for help at Info Central and Bell Babysitting!
      • The last workshops of the festival finish at 4pm, so the bells will be packed up and brought back either to the ringing floor or to the owners' vehicles. 
      • Vendors and need help packing up their displays after 4pm as well. 
      • The festival concert will take place at 8pm on Saturday, June 7th. For that concert we could use volunteers to:
          • Sell ticket to the concert.
          • Check tickets at the door.
          • Hand out programs. After the concert the sound system and the podium will need to be disassembled and packed away.
